Laura joined the Fisher Island Day School faculty as the lead Grade 3 teacher in 2019. She grew up in Connecticut, although she has traveled and lived in various countries. Laura has 7 years of teaching experience.  After moving from Boston, she taught in a private school in Miami for two years.

Laura became interested in teaching after working as a summer-camp counselor and was inspired by her parents’ careers in education. She began to incorporate student-based projects into her lesson plans after teaching in an International Baccalaureate Project School in Mexico City. Laura strives to create a caring classroom community where all her students feel welcome and become involved in the learning process. She encourages a growth mindset, inspires perseverance in her students, and utilizes the classroom motto of “Anything is possible!”

In her spare time, Laura enjoys traveling, paddle boarding, yoga, dancing, and reading.

Laura graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies from St. Joseph’s College of Maine and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Laura holds a Massachusetts teaching certification in both Elementary Education and English as a Second Language.
