FIDS KIDS CARE
We are really excited to announce, “FIDS Kids Care”.
A student club empowering children through volunteering their time, this club is optional for anyone to join. Students who participate will assist by collecting and delivering gently used clothing, shoes and toys. (basically cleaning out their closets) Beginning in November, “Kids Care” will meet the first Thursday of each month from 3:00 – 3:30 PM at the School. Faculty, staff and parents are invited to participate. "Kids Care" will be collecting items three times during the school year.
Our children will benefit by learning about the importance of community service; activities will include collecting items and a field trip with parents. Our goal is to provide outreach and help others. The benefits are far-reaching and include:
Increasing Student’s Self-Worth and Giving Back - No child is too young to help, the youngest child may start by sharing a smile and kind words to brighten someone's day. Fourth and fifth graders may be ready to organize a charity event. Children feel a great sense of accomplishment and are proud when they can help others.
Developing Leadership Skills - Charitable work offers valuable lessons for children in leadership and responsibility.
Teaching Students to Share - Some of our children may have more than they need and have no idea there are children who don't even have the basic necessities (food, shelter, clothing or even someone to love them). Charitable projects provide an opportunity to teach children about world issues. The club’s goal is for kids to be more caring and empathetic to others outside of our community.
Preparing our Children for the Future – Our children will learn the importance of community service, volunteerism and helping others. Many middle schools expect children to be involved in community service.
In December, our first project will be a can food drive, supporting the Joshua Heart Foundation. During the November meeting “FIDS Kids Care” will be sending home a permission slip and more information about community outreach.
