Teacher Appreciation Week
With my childhood upbringing in India, I was told by my parents to respect my teachers. They always said, "The best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book."
Teachers mold the lives that they influence. Lessons learned from teachers remain with their students throughout life. Teachers who break down barriers and reach into the souls of the students that they are responsible for do not get the recognition or gratitude they have earned.
Many teachers are exhausted from their workload and responsibilities. They have their own families, financial and life stresses that challenge them along with everyone else. Teachers need encouragement and support from the community to feel that their devotion to students is appreciated.
We should always respect our teachers.
"Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard for it is a lost tradition." - Jacques Barzun
At Fisher Island Day School, we as parents recognize the profound impact all of you have on the most precious members of our family.
There are not enough thanks we can give to you for all your sincerity and affection.
"A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others." –Anonymous
Thanks again to all of you for making this a wonderful school year.
Finally, I would also like to thank all the parents of Fisher Island Day School for helping us to make this week a special week, especially Ekatrina Zoi for organizing the week’s activities. - Pooja Tripathi's speech on May 2, 2011
The week will be kicked off with flowers and chocolates. Each day breakfast and lunch will be served by parent volunteers. Thursday and Friday will offer pampering by a certified message therapist. All faculty will receive beautiful professional pictures of their class and the entire school. AmEx gift cards will be presented the final day of the week. Our teachers are so important and we want them to know how much.

Sergei Prokofiev's "PETER AND THE WOLF" will be performed by select Fellows from the New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy.
Our children imagination's will run wild as the story of Peter and the Wolf musically comes to life. Accompanied by a narrator, follow the tale of Peter and his animal friends and get to know the instruments of the orchestra's woodwind section at the same time.

Thoughts of the Day
"Teaching is leaving a vestige of one self in the development of another. And surely the student is a bank where you can deposit your most precious treasures." - Eugene P. Bertin
"Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher." -Japanese proverb

Parents of the Month
It is of high importance that the PTA recognize and thank all who have contributed to this year's events. We would like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude to the following parents: Fabiola Rogondino Carvallo and Bridjette Hoilett-Green.
Fabiola has served and is currently serving as a FIDS Board Member. She is always in attendance at the PTA meetings and has participated on numerous committees.
One of Fabiola's largest contributions is that of the International Festival. Last year, Fabiola talked and danced her way into a show that was produced without any budget. BRAVO!!
We are all looking forward to the upcoming production. This is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Bridjette is a new parent to FIDS. Always enthusiastic to serve on commitees and show her support, Bridjette has attended every PTA meeting and graciously provided the morning refreshments. Along with having a succesful business, Bridjette is a certified personal trainer and currently enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. An advocate of healthy eating and lifestyle, Bridjette will be a guest speaker for next year's Effective Parenting Series.
