Successful FIDS Gala.....

The crowd was fabulous, the food delicious and the DJ was awesome...The Reach for the Stars Annual Benefit Gala was a huge success. It is our pleasure to report that the 2011 FIDS Gala grossed $298,000 and netted $249,000. The numbers reflect everyone's hard work.

Thank you for all you have done...the Gala committee members and all of the volunteers and all who attended the event.

The 2011 Chinese New Year was a great achievement....

Thanks to Ms. Suna Lee for all her efforts in making this a memorable day for the FIDS community.

Our Chinese New Year celebration was also reported in the Miami Herald newspaper.

The school welcomed ambassador, Mr. Jin, who commented, " The FIDS has the best Mandarin Chinese program in all of Miami-Dade county".

THE FUN CONTINUES:

Sunday March 27, the annual FIDS KIDS FISHING EVENT will be held at the Guest Marina on Fisher Island. Once again the Fisher Island Club will partner with the school for this highly anticipated occasion.
This day gives the children an opportunity to have the adventure of fishing in a safe environment. At the same time volunteers will share their knowledge on techniques and  environmental conservation. Children will receive a fishing pole and tackle box.
The school will benefit from the proceeds. We offer different levels of sponsorship for companies or individuals that are interested in participation. Tickets will be sold for $25 per person and will be available in advance for Fisher Island Day School Students. Please contact Kimberly Cacioppo kimberly@islandinsiders.com 786-302-5727 or Coach John Durango  jdurango@fisherislanddayschool.org Participation is encouraged. Thoughts of the Day

"IF I HAD MY CHILD TO RAISE OVER AGAIN"

If I had my child to raise all over again,

I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.

I'd finger-paint more, and point the finger less.

I would do less correcting and more connecting.

I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.

I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.

I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.

I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.

I'd do more hugging and less tugging.

- Diane Loomans

Parent of the Month

We fully appreciate the commitment and dedication Maria Elena Zapata has demonstrated throughout the Gala and the journey of Fisher Island Day School. Maria Elena has always been generous with time and support to the school. Without question she just takes the initiative and gets things done! Maria Elena has introduced the school to many people that are now part of the FIDS family. A founding parent of the school, Maria Elena currently serves on the Board of Directors. She has also spearheaded the Outreach Program. We look forward to creating more memories with Maria Elena and the rest of the Zapata family.
