FAQ

Does FIDS accept off-island students?
While the majority of students are Fisher Island residents, qualified applicants from the surrounding communities are also accepted.

How does one get to Fisher Island?
Fisher Island is a secure environment and only accessible by boat. There is an 8 minute ferry that leaves the terminal (located off the MacArthur Causeway near South Beach) four or five times per hour, depending on the time of year. (additional fees apply). The school provides limited bus service to/from the South of Fifth neighborhood.

Does my child need to be fluent in English?
We find that the younger students catch on to a second language within a matter of months. We also welcome the diversity within the community. The FIDS curriculum is very advanced; however, older students may not be able to keep up without a strong knowledge of the English language. Applying students will be tested.

Does FIDS accept admissions applications beyond the date of February 1st?
We strongly recommend that all applications be submitted in advance of the application deadline. Class sizes at FIDS are very small and space is limited. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and acceptance will only be offered to a qualified applicant if space becomes available.

What are your application deadlines?
The deadline to submit an application for the subsequent school year is February 1. We strongly recommend that all applications be submitted in advance of the application deadline. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and acceptance will only be offered to a qualified applicant if space becomes available.
