Deborah Van Stone joined the Fisher Island Day School Community in July 2019.  Previously, she worked for 17 years with the Dean of Faculty and Director of University, Corporate, and Community Affairs at Gulliver Schools. In this role, she collaborated directly with the Florida Department of Education, Florida Council of Independent Schools, and other educational agencies to provide educator in-service training, reporting, and resolution of educator licensure issues.  Additionally, her work extended to the Miami-Dade business community through her participation in various chambers of commerce and their committees.

A passionate proponent of “giving back” through volunteerism, Deborah has worked with several not-for-profit organizations such as Camp Erin—a bereavement camp for children—where she served as clinical point person for eight years.  Her volunteer efforts have also led her to take on various roles such as executive board member and president of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club, past board member of the GFWC Florida Federation, and past executive board member of DCR–Colorado.  Most recently, Deborah joined the board of trustees of “Thread of Life,” an organization dedicated to eradicating human trafficking.

When Deborah is not working, volunteering, or attending classes, she enjoys spending time with her children, engaging in ocean activities, attending the opera, and watching classic movies.

Deborah earned her Associates Degree from Miami-Dade College with a focus on Social Sciences and maintains her professional certification through the Florida Department of Education in the area of Athletic Coaching. Additionally, she has received training in grief recognition for camp counseling, youth mental health first-aid, and first-responder training for sexual assault.  As a life-long learner, she is currently attending classes as she continues her training and education in the field of psychology.
