Below is a list of requirements that must be met in order to consider an applicant’s admissions file complete:
Age Eligibility-FIDS maintains the State of Florida standards that a child must be 5 years old by September 1st of the year that he or she enters Kindergarten. This applies to every grade and students entering Early Learning must be 2 years old by September 1st of the year that they begin school.
Application-The Application Form must be received at FIDS along with a non-refundable application fee of $200.
Please call (305) 531-2350 to request an application.
Birth Certificate and Medical Forms-Please submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport if your child is a US citizen. If your child is a non-US citizen, please submit a copy of his or her visa. All children regardless of citizenship must comply with the State of Florida's requirement for health records, and these must be submitted to the school no later than one week prior to your child's enrollment.
School Records-If your child has attended school previous to applying to FIDS, official school records must be submitted to the FIDS Admissions Director. Please send the Transcript and School Record Release form to your child’s current school for the release of all records, including all standardized test scores (when applicable). These records must be delivered directly from the school; in no circumstances will records submitted by the parents be accepted. Please allow plenty of time for the school to complete this request.
Teacher Recommendation-For applicants to Senior Kindergarten and older (age 5 by September 1st), we ask that your child’s current teacher complete the Teacher Recommendation Form in the Admissions Packet. This must be received at FIDS directly from the teacher; in no circumstances will recommendations submitted by the parents be accepted. Please allow plenty of time for the teacher to complete this request.
Interview-Upon receipt of a complete application file you will receive a phone call to schedule an interview. The interview for applicants to the Early Learning and Pre-K programs consists largely of classroom observation, and parents will be invited to stay in the room.
Testing-All newly applying children must be evaluated prior to admission by a FIDS teacher on-site. For children applying to Junior Kindergarten (age 4 by September 1st) through Grade 4, FIDS also accepts recent test results from the Early Childhood Admissions Assessment. All the documents and the application fee (payable to Fisher Island Day School) should be sent to:
Fisher Island Day School
Two Fisher Island Drive
Fisher Island, FL 33109
Letters of Notification-Decision Letters will be mailed in the spring.
Late Applications-We strongly recommend that all applications be submitted in advance of the application deadline. Class sizes at FIDS are very small and space is limited. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a rolling basis and acceptance will only be offered to a qualified applicant if space becomes available.
